Judging from the return of many models that shaped the past glories of many manufacturers, nostalgia still sells out and perhaps even more during the pivotal times we live in. Lamborghini is well aware of this and has chosen to revive the model that lived the dreams of many teenagers in the ’70s and ’80s, the Countach.

Of course, we are not talking about rebirth in the literal sense of the word. As the recently unveiled Countach LPI 800-4 at Pebble Beach would be essentially just an arc in the recent history of the Sant’Agata Bolognese plant with 112 units produced, it was all sold elsewhere.

The disrespectful design lines drawn by Marcello Gandini at the time can be found in part in this reissue, something that also marks the 50th anniversary of the model first shown in Geneva in 1971 which was discontinued in 1990. We are now in charge of the model. The headlights are set low enough, and the overall shape of the triangular prism remains in the bow. However, perhaps it is the back that manages to better capture the meaning of the original work, with the lights intertwined in a paddle-like shape.

Underneath this carbon-fibre body, we find the Aventador’s frame. The mechanical tune clearly provided by the V12, future generations, with a displacement of 6.5 liters. Its composition, which also appears under the central cover of Sián, is a hybrid. A 48-volt electric motor producing 34 hp boosts the total power to 770 hp. It derives its power from the supercapacitor. The Aventador’s seven-speed sequential gearbox is still on the list, as is the all-wheel drive system, providing 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 355 km/h.

We would certainly have liked a more creative approach in introducing this “new” Countach to better adhere to the iconic character of the first prank, but one thing is for sure, it will become a model that collectors will seek. Let’s not forget that the descendant of the Aventador is about to be born.
