Dwight Howard agrees to a year-long deal with the 76ers

After he initially tweeted he would return to Los Angeles Lakers, Dwight Howard reportedly agreed to sign a one-year deal with Philadelphia 76ersIn Shams Sharia in the stadium.

Howard was a staple of the Lakers’ Championship during the 2019-20 season. The former All-Star star spent most of the year off the bench, providing the energy for his defense and dominance on the boards. As the post-season wore on, Los Angeles got started on Howard and he was vital to slow down Denver NuggetsNikola Gokic and Miami HeatPam Adebayo.

On Friday, it appeared Dwight Howard was ready to turn it back on again with Purple & Gold, but he quickly deleted a tweet announcing his return. Just over an hour later, an agreement was reached with Philadelphia.

Howard joins again Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey with The Sixers, who took over the head of basketball operations in early November.

Morey quickly rebuilt the Philadelphia roster around mainstays Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons, adding outside shootings with deals for Seth Carey and Danny Green before landing on Dwight. With a free agency only a few hours old, Morrie probably hasn’t finished building his new squad of 76 players.
